SUMMARY:
One of our goals is to find working people who, cannot get help and are not quite making it. They may be short grocery, gas, utility, rent money. I usually find them by observing people at gas stations and grocery stores. I am not afraid to talk to people on the side of the road. I find out what their needs are and address them directly and immediately. The red tape of most organizations makes it hard for people to get help right when they need it.
I saw a couple in a broke down motor home in front of the gas station. I stopped to ask what was going on. I found out that he couldn’t get a job because he didn't have the proper documents. First, I arranged a parking space for them. Next, we went to work to get a drivers license. Once we had the drivers license; we were able to go get a social security card. I hired him to work at the business I ran. Once they were back on their feet, they were able to get back on the road.
I was trying to find handyman work. I found a single mom who had a flooded bathroom. The floor was rotted, the sheetrock was off about 2.5’ up, and the toilet and cabinets were removed. I talked to her and found out that the landlord stuck her with the repair bill. I spoke to her church and found that they could do the job for her without charge.
I came home one night, took my sleeping pill and went to sleep like every other night. My wife came in and said I had to leave. She was done with the marriage. Thirty-four years were wasted in one sentence. I slept for 6 hours and loaded my pick-up. I Have just what is in my pick-up I am homeless and without a job. I have helped so many people, and I’m still doing many hours of service. But I’m limited to how much financial help I can give.
I saw some furniture on the curb. I talked to the lady. Her living room paint job was not done right, so I agreed to fix the paint job. This started a whole string of service jobs. Some of which were fixing lights, her door wouldn’t latch when it shut, the wind caught her screen door, toilet was plugged so bad it needed removed and cleaned out.
A widow lady needed her lawnmower fixed. I fixed it but she couldn’t use it, so I mowed the lawn all summer. I also moved gravel for her. Worked on her camp trailer.
We had a huge snowstorm. The power was out for a week. There was a woman who had a baby and young children and no heater. I called my friend who had a skid steer and arranged for a path. I dug my truck out. Loaded my heater and headed over there.
I have changed countless tires on the side of the road.
One single lady had her water freeze up and break. In –30 temperatures I got wet fixing broken pipes outside. It was a little chilly, but we got it fixed. She had a few projects hauling manure for the garden and building a panel on the side of the house to keep the water heater from freezing.
Growing up, we always took good care of the widows around town. Mowing lawns, trimming trees, raking leaves, stacking wood, fixing stuff, and painting.
A lady called me and had me listen to her truck, driving down the road. It was making a loud knocking noise. I told her to pull over and shut it off. I drove out there for 20 miles. I checked it out. It was a cv joint, so I bought an axle and had a mechanic put it in while she was at work. When she was off work, her truck was ready to drive home.
When people are not around to do their chores. I will drive sometimes 40 miles to feed and water animals sometimes for more than 2 weeks.
